Hello I have a portable DVD player I have is involved, as well as yellow and white cable into the player and my TV. You did not see the DVD. This shows the usual way when you turn the DVD player. The video cable should be color coded yellow. Make sure that the yellow connector is plugged into the drive into the yellow jack on your TV.
